The Sri Lankan security forces on Thursday arrested 37 fishermen in the high security zone fearing that these fishermen would be used as shield by the LTTE to carry out attacks in Colombo port. The defence ministry said the Sri Lankan navy nabbed 37 fishermen for illegally trespassing into the high security zone.

The ministry officials said that 10 fishermen were diving underneath the sea while 27 fishermen were on board.

The SLN officials said they seized all the boats and their properties including the nets and oxygen cylinders and arrested fishermen fearing that LTTE had infiltrated into Sri Lankan high security areas by using these fishermen as shields.
