The Jaffna Tamil Students Union in a statement on Wednesday condemned destruction of Lt. Col. Thileepan’s statue located behind the historic Nallur Kanthaswamy Koayil on Point Pedro Nallur road during curfew last Sunday night.
The statement said that the Sinhala colonized forces are trying to wipe out the holy statues of Tamils who dedicated their lives for the cause of Tamils.
The Sinhala armed forces and their sponsored groups unleashed violence against innocent Tamils in the past but now they are destroying the statues of Tamil heroes like Lt. Col. Thileepan.
It said Mahinda Rajapaksa is trying to portray him as a true Buddhist in front of the international community but he is a demon who is trying to create Sinhala colonies in Tamil areas.
The government has once again proved its discrimination by destroying the statue of Lt. Col. Thileepan who sacrificed his live for the Tamils.
The release said that the commemoration for the heroes of the Tamils (Maaveerar Week) is beginning today but the Sinhala armed forces do not want to see the Tamils paying their homage to Lt. Col. Thileepan and others in their controlled areas.
It said that the Sinhala nation is committing blunder by destroying the statues of heroes because these heroes are in the hearts of every single Tamil where from they (heroes) cannot be wiped out.
However, the Tamils in return will come forth to support the LTTE if the Sri Lankan government feels that the Tamils will forget their martyrs.
It is worth noting that Lt. Col. Thileepan was the LTTE's political wing leader, died on twelfth day of his fast unto death campaign that he started on September 15, 1987 in front of the Nalloor Kandasamy temple after putting forward five demands to the Indian government in support of the Tamil people soon after the signing of the Indo-Sri Lankan agreement in 1987.
