The Jaffna Tamil Students Union (JTSU) on Thursday demanded immediate release of student Niresh who was arrested by the Sri Lankan army on Wednesday when he was returning his hometown in Thenmaradchy from Jaffna town after attending private tuition class.

The JTSU in a statement issued by Kesavan said that the arrest was made when he was returning home in bus near Chemmani and demanded of Sri Lankan security forces to release him immediately.

It said many students were arrested by Sri Lankan Armed forces and some of them were killed whose dead bodies were later discovered. But still it could not be known as to what has happened to the rest of the arrested students. Some of them were released after severe mental and physical tortures.

The student community in Jaffan is worried that what will happen to Niresh and they are also angered towards the Sri Lankan armed forces for arresting innocent student without any valid reason.

The JTSU alleged that the Sri Lankan armed forces are making these arrests only to disturb students ahead of their exams so that they cannot concentrate on study.

It warned that if the Sri Lankan armed forces failed to release the Jaffna St. Johns student Niresh immediately the entire student community in the peninsula would be forced to take to street against Sri Lankan armed forces.
