Six civilians, three of same family, were killed and five others were injured in two separate attacks—one bombardment by Sri Lankan Air Force, and another was claymore blast. Sources said, fighters of Sri Lanka Air Force bombed a civilian settlement in Tharmapuram in the Kilinochchi district today (Sunday), around 7.30am, killing three people and injuring seven.

A claymore attack was also carried out in Oddusuddan area this morning that killed three more civilians.

The civilian settlement, Unit 8 in Tharmapuram, came under the SLAF aerial attack at 7.30 a.m.

The attack left three of same family--- father, mother and their daughter—killed and seven others injured who were rushed to the Kilinochchi district hospital.

The victims killed were identified as Varnalingam, 54, his wife V. Saraswathy, 49, and their daughter V. Sumitra, 25, from Eezhaalai in Jaffna.

The couple’s 28-years-old son, Kamalraj, and his 19-year-old wife, K. Thanayogam (Thana) were also critically injured in the attack and were admitted to the hospital. Doctors cut off Thanayogam’s one leg, hospital sources said.

M. Nadanavathy (Thevi), 41, a dance teacher at Tharmapuram Mahaviththiyaalayam, with wounds in stomach, Ariyakuddi Velmurugu, 60, a retired postmaster, and a 60-year old man, Lingeswaran, were also admitted at the hospital with critical conditions.

Local people said more than 8 bombs were dropped, destroying two houses completely, and causing damage to seven other houses.

They said the attack was made when November 27 Heroes Day remembrance events were in progress in Vanni.

The names and identities of those killed in the Oddusuddan claymore blast are yet to be known.
