Leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) and one of the forefathers of Tamil nationalism, Mr V Anandasangaree has condemned last Wednesday's torching of Sunday Leader printing press as "highly deplorable". "Writing should be met by writing and not by thuggery or by any other undemocratic means," the veteran politician said without mentioning the name of KT Rajasingham, owner/editor of Asia Tribune website who is believed to have been behind the attack.
Sunday Leader offices were torched after publishing two back-to-back editorials exposing KT Rajasingham's link to several paramilitary groups and high-profile murders in Sri Lanka.
Mr Anandasangaree further warned that KT Rajasingham and his cohorts "should not go with the impression that they have achieved something great, forgetting the fact that it will boomerang on them one day". "Every citizen should take it as an offence committed against everyone of us and therefore should go all out to bring the culprits to book by giving all information they have or can gather about this incident," he added.
KT Rajasingham is in hiding somewhere in Sweden. Mr Anandasangree, who once championed Tamil Nationalism and total independence, is now endorsing federal system of governance as a solution to end the 25years long ethnic conflict between the Tamils and Sinhalese.
