Sri Lanka: Sri Lankan forces step up security in Jaffna peninsula

In a bid to further strengthen security measures, the Sri Lankan armed forces are setting up more checkpoints in Jaffna peninsula for last few days. Local sources said soldiers of SL armed forces are thoroughly checking passengers traveling to and from Jaffna town.
The armed forces are deploying more soldiers and police to the checkpoints and are also conducting house to house checking frequently.
The armed forces are also asking the passengers from Valigamam, Theevagam, Thenmaradchy and Vadamaradchy who travel to Jaffna town to show their identification cards and even they ask the passengers to say their id numbers.
The parcels of the passengers are also being checked thoroughly by the armed forces, causing enormous problems to the passengers, many passengers said.
