Sri Lankan war planes bombed a Tamil village on Sunday morning, with the government claiming that it destroyed a communication centre while hospital sources said that four people were killed and seven were injured. Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) planes carried out two sorties at around 7.30am, dropping at least eight bombs on the village of Tharmapuram, 2km south of Kilinochchi Town.
The Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence, based in Colombo, said in a statement that the target was "place where the LTTE has been coordinating its international terrorist activities".
Officials at the Kilinochchi General Hospital said that they had "received 11 casualties of whom four are dead and seven more are injured".
Two houses were completely destroyed in the bombardment, with only the outer shell remaining. All the victims are from the two families that resided in the destroyed houses.
