The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) has expressed concern over rampant disappearances, killings and abductions in the eastern part of the country. In its latest security assessment report the ceasefire monitors mentioned that civilians in Kinniya, Eachilampattu and Valaichchenai faced security challenges.
"The SLMM is informed about growing fear in several communities in the eastern region and the three areas are visited during the week and the communities face ongoing security challenges," the SLMM said.
The monitors also said the presence of TMVP group has caused tensions within the Muslim community in the east.
"In Valaichchenai a leaflet is distributed urging action against people who support the TMVP," the SLMM added.
