Unidentified shot dead four Sinhala paddy cultivators, including a female, on Monday morning in Maha Vilachiya DS division, northwest of Wilpattu wildlife sanctuary, police said. Sources said the incident of firing took place around 8.45 a.m. at Maha Vilachiya, located northwest of Anuradhapura district bordering the southern part of Mannar, Chilavatturai area that went under the SLA control two months back.

Names and other details about the victims could not be known.

The security of the area has been tightened after the attack on Anuradhapura airbase.

It is worth mentioning here that in March this year the Sri Lanka Army commander of the Anuradhapura Saliyapura Gajaba Regimental Headquarters, Colonel Jayantha Shurawera, and his three companions including a Major, and four national park employees were killed in an ambush in the sanctuary.
