ANURADHAPURAM (SNM) -- A nurse who was brutally raped by an injured soldier, whom she was looking after at the Anuradhapura General Hospital, committed suicide on Monday. The victim Nayana Dissanayake, 26, was found dead on the floor, at her living quarters by her husband.
On Friday Nayana had lodged a complaint with the local police alleging that a soldier being treated for a shoulder injury had sexually assaulted her. The soldier involved is continuing to receive treatment but is under custody, according to local police sources. The nurse had injected herself with an overdose of a cocktail of pills, hospital sources said. Set as favorite Bookmark Comments (1)

This is nothing new ? Raping the nurse who was caring him at the hospital driving her to the extent of taking her life - these are the despicable things the Sri Lankan soldiers are good at. Just look at their behaviour: - stripping bodies of people killed in the conflict and displaying them nakedly in public (an act which goes beyond any norms or standards of human decency); raping Tamil Women and young girls in the North and East; aerial bombing of schools and hospitals ( Senchcholai school bombing killing 53 girls, 3 staff and injuring more than 150 school girls); dancing at the President?s residence with liquor celebrating the death of a man of peace; celebrating the killings of innocent civilian lives and destruction of their livelihood (the Thoppigala incident which every decent human being saw it as staining with blood the land and the lives of the Tamil people). Like it or not, all these are being done by the government and its armed forces. This is the sick mentality of the Sri Lankan leaders and their armed forces personnel. There is no redemption from sins for these people even after their deaths. |
