COLOMBO (SNM) -- Iran's 'Supreme Leader' Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has reaffirmed the Islamic Republic's "continuous support" for Sri Lanka; the state ran Daily News reported on Wednesday. The Ayatollah had made his comments during a meeting with visiting Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Tehran on Tuesday, according to the report.
Khamenei "described President Rajapaksa as one of the strongest leaders in Asia," the report further said. He also "praised President Rajapaksa for his unwavering and forthright stand on Palestine". Sri Lanka and Iran had maintained a consistent pro-Palestine policy. "Sri Lanka has also established diplomatic ties with Palestine," Rajapaksa was quoted as having told the Ayatollah. Iran is the single biggest importer of Sri Lankan tea and single largest exporter of fossil fuel to the Sinhala nation. Sri Lanka also backs what it describes as "Iran's inalienable right to use nuclear energy". Set as favorite Bookmark Comments (4)
