Sri Lanka: Sri Lankan Army commander visits Jaffna while Tamils commemorate dead heroes

The Sri Lankan army commander, Lt. General Sarath Fonseka, visited Jaffna peninsula to review the security situation in the peninsula when the Tamils were holding various events to commemorate their dead great heroes (Maaveerar) on Tuesday, November 27.
Defense sources said from Jaffna that the Sri Lankan government believes that the LTTE would launch offensive to capture the Jaffna peninsula from the control of Sri Lankan Army.
The Sri Lankan commander instructed the armed forces to stay vigil in the Muhamalai and Nagarkoayil areas where the LTTE and the Sri Lankan armed forces clashed.
The Sri Lankan defense ministry said that the main purpose of his visit was to review the contingency plans to ensure the security in the peninsula during the Heroes Day.
During his visit, Fonseka talked to Commander SFHQ (J) Major General G.A. Chandrasiri and Commanders of the Divisions, Brigades and gave necessary instructions to ensure security in the peninsula.
