The people in Tamil Eelam commemorated the dead heroes who sacrificed their lives for the birth of Tamil Eelam in the island of Ceylon. The commemorations were held throughout Tamil Eelam including in the Sri Lankan army controlled areas despite ignoring the warnings of the Sri Lankan armed forces not to observe the Heroes Day events.
The Diaspora Tamils also commemorated grandly in their host countries in large numbers. Thousands of Tamils paid tribute to their dead heroes in Toronto on Tuesday evening held at the Riviera Convention Centre located at Jane and Highway 7. South Indian cinema director Seeman took part in the event in Toronto.
In Switzerland, thousands of Tamils took part in the event where LTTE’s legal advisor Rudrakumaran delivered speech. LTTE’s Swiss branch coordinator Kulam hoisted Tamil Eelam flag in the commemoration event.
The Tamils in South Africa took part in large numbers to commemorate the dead heroes where, among others, southern Indian Tamil National Movement leader Pazha Nedumaran delivered speech.
Nedumaran said ancient Tamils had the practice of honouring the dead heroes and the LTTE is now doing it.
He said LTTE declared November 27 as the Heroes Day to mark the first cadre of the LTTE, Shankar, died after succumbed to injuries in Sri Lanka but he was taken in boat to southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu for medical treatment but he died after failure of medical treatment.
He died in Madurai which is the native place of Nedumaran. He said he cried loudly after LTTE leader Pirapaharan cried loudly on the spot he died in his lap.
Highly praising the LTTE leader, Nedumaran said Pirapaharan turns the hero of the Tamils as he is the leader of the LTTE which becomes the conventional armed forces with the land, sea and air forces.
Similar commemoration events were also held in many countries including Norway, Denmark, Italy, England, Germany and France.
