COLOMBO (SNM) -- Cricketing stars of England, here on a winter tour have been told by their bosses to remain in the island, despite serious security concerns. The government here is struggling to provide security to its own people including Ministers. On Wednesday, a body guard and personal secretary of a Minister were killed in a bomb blast in the Capital Colombo.
Hours later, another bomb blast, just 5miles from the hotel where the cricketing stars had been staying, killed 18 people injured several more. However, England's cricketing bosses, from their luxury homes in suburbia have ordered the 16 strong team to stay the course in Sri Lanka despite the security concerns. The team are currently in the Sinhala-Buddhist Heartland of Kandy, and the scheduled to return to Colombo next week. Foreigners have never been deliberately targeted by either side of Sri Lanka's ethnic divide. But experts fear that in a high intensity war such as the one raging in the island, no one should take the risk of becoming "collateral damage". Set as favorite Bookmark Comments (1)
