The fighters of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on Thursday morning foiled a bid of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) to advance in Kilaali and Mukamalai north Front Defence Line (FDL) positions, according to sources near northern FDL areas. Both sides exchanged heavy artillery shells and mortar fire during the skirmishes.
Local people said the LTTE had successfully repulsed a similar SLA attempt on Wednesday.
They said launching offensive fire on targets of each other has become a routine affair recently that has caused tension among the residents in Jaffna peninsula.
