The Sri Lankan government on Friday said it was not contemplating banning the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Keheliya Rambukwella, the minister of foreign employment and the government's defence spokesman, told reporters that the government is not contemplating a ban that can close the door for peace.
“We are not contemplating a ban and we want to keep doors open for peace”, he said.
The Colombo government has accused the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) of two bomb blast incidents of Wednesday that killed 21 people and injured more than 40.
Minister Rambukwella claimed that the government's military achieved a remarkable success against the Tigers.
'We have completed 75 percent of our difficult journey and now we on the brink of the Kilinochchi in the north where the LTTE headquarters is located’, he said.
Government’s Police spokesman, Jayantha Wickramarathna, said that additional 500 policemen have been deployed in Colombo following the threat from Tamil rebels.
He said that the rebels are now targeting civilians out of desperation, as they fear complete annihilation.
