COLOMBO (SNM) -- From his bed in Singapore, the injured leader of the paramilitary EPDP group gave an interview to the government mouthpiece Daily News and other Sinhala media on Friday. The gunman-cum-politician vowed to return to the island, and continue with aiding the Sri Lankan military in its campaign of killings and forced disappearances of Tamils.
He also praised the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Devananda went on to say that he is ready to accept whatever Rajapaksa can throw at him. The paramilitary leader was visibly shocked by the demise of his stepfather-cum-secretary Steven Peiris, media reports said. The EDDP leader has always insisted that Tamils should accept anything Sinhala leaders had thrown at them. He was first to accept North-East merged provincial council; then district council and is now equally ready to accept North-East demerged provincial councils. Born in a family of four, Devananda joined the EROS group in 1970s. He was removed from that organisation on charges of 'womanising'. Later he joined the EPRLF group but was again removed on charges of 'womanising'. With no Tamil militant groups willing to take him in, the notorious one formed his own group the EPDP. It is true that Devananda is not a Saint and the writer is convinced of his men being involved in the killing of innocent civilians, But there are many civlised ways to attack him through the media, without SLANDERING. iT APPEARS ALL OTHER Tamil Groups ARE CHASTE observing monastic descipline, |
