Sri Lanka: 30, 000 joined army in 2007

COLOMBO (SNM) -- Just over 30, 000 unemployed Sinhalese youth joined the Sri Lanka Army during the first 11months of 2007, Military Spokesman "Brigadier" Udaya Nanayakkara told the media on Friday. He added that country wide recruitment drive would continue till December 20, as the army is still short of personal. Growing unemployment, even for graduates, as well has high level of abuse suffered by Sri Lankans employed in the Middle East contributed to the large number of youth signing up to the army, analysts say.

More than 17, 000 of the recruits were in fact former soldiers who had '?run away' from duty, figures revealed. "They will be deployed to their regiments after a brief training," Nanayakkara added.

The fact is now praba hasn't got the people to fight. all of them are dead. he lives alone his graveland. That's why he cannot even think about a major offensive. 12 years have passed since the army captured the jaffna. what could your hero do? is this the capability of LTTE?
