Kfir jets of Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) bombed Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) controlled areas in Pooneryn on Friday afternoon. Prior to dropping bomb, the SLAF fighters were seen hovering in the sky of Jaffna peninsula from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., sources in Jaffna said.
The bombs that were dropped in Pooneryn and the nearby islets exploded causing fear among people. No information about casualties was available.
Meanwhile, over 40,000 cellular phones being used in Jaffna peninsula, which had been completely out of service for nearly four days by Sri Lanka Army (SLA), were activated partly on Friday evening. On the eve of LTTE Heroes’ Day, the SLA had disconnected the cellular phones in Jaffna, causing enormous sufferings for Jaffna residents.
