Sri Lanka: 1000 Tamils arrested in 24 hours

Sri Lankan Army and Police have arrested more than 1000 Tamils across Sri Lanka, particularly in Colombo and in the districts in south, over the last 24 hours. This wholesale arrest of Tamils have caused serious anger among the minority community, forcing them to take to street.

Sources said a good number of arrested Tamils in Colombo have been taken to Boosa detention centre and the parents of over 100 arrestees from Kottahena tried to march towards Temple Trees from Galle Face on Saturday evening led by UNP parliamentarian T. Maheswaran and Upcountry Peoples Front parliamentarian P. Radhakrishnan, but their procession was stopped by the Police near the Taj samudra Hotel.

Police later dispersed the protesters.

The arrests were made two days after Sri Lankan railway authorities suspended train service to Vavuniya aimed at restricting travel between North and South.

Mr. Maheshwaran told newsmen that he requested president Mahinda Rajapakse over his mobile phone but he refused to meet the parents. About 150 persons were arrested alone in Kotahena Police division and around 100 were taken to Boosa.

If you look Jaffna peninsula, after became under the control of GoSL since 1995, it has been being an open prison. Disappearance, abductions, massacres and sexual assaults have been being in the Tamils daily livelihood. Recently when GoSL evicted the Tamils from Colombo to North and East, there was widely condemnation from the International Community (IC). If GoSL put the Tamils in the prison or detention camps under the PTA, IC would not comment anything because they were stamped as Terrorists. STHAYANADAN why do you think the Sinhalese will not kill their own people?
Do you know how many 1000s of innocent Sinhalese people were brutally totured and killed during the JVP uprisings in the south? And nowdays killing for personal political and finacial gain is no problem in Sri Lanka = gangsterland.

Kafir bombs for Tamils in the northeast, parcel bombs for Sinhalese in the south = best way for gangsters to keep in power.

Sri Lanka has a law ??? And who implement it and who follows it ?? Entire tamil race got misplaced and Only few Sinhalese, No one is going to lose anything if those Sinhalese got misplaced, even if they die - because that is consequence from the war - that is what happening for the tamils.
No one give a damn about what is happening to tamil - so why to Sinhalese. Your own government kills your own people for some political reason, so why can sinhalese die in the war ????

Open your eyes and see, why a government has to spend its time, money and energy on a war... Thats coz, there is a group or brainless terrorists who has taken arms to disturb the day to day lives of that country...? When there is a war, the bullets and bombs are not bunch of flowers...

To end the war, Sri lanka must fight with these terrorists and completely destroy them... as long as it happens innocent civilians are affected and cought in the cross fire, specially Tamil civilains under terrorists are ceverly affected as they are being used as the shield.... these things can't be stoped over night... it can take months years.... but the relaxed policies over terrorists should be taken away as we have learnt enough...

Lets hope all these will end soon...
