Rising food prices contributed the most to a 4.4 percent jump in Sri Lanka's November inflation, while the year-on-year inflation rate remained at 19.6 percent, the Census and Statistics Department said Friday. The 12-month moving average of the Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) was 17.4 percent in November, up 5.5 percent from the same month last year, the department added.
The prices of most items jumped in the market basket used by the Department to gauge inflation, with the only respite to consumers coming from a fall in the price of sour plantains and some varieties of "fresh" fish.
Petroleum prices contributed the most to November's inflation next to food, the Department's data has shown.
