Offices of the United Nations Children's Agency (UNICEF) was raided by Sri Lanka's elite copes on Friday afternoon. The offices and adjacent stores located in Seeduwa were searched for alleged supplies intend for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), according to police sources.
Meanwhile, UNICEF spokesperson Gordan Weiss told the media that the agency was notified that its premises would be searched but was not informed on why or by whom the action was being taken.
The spokesperson said: "We have absolutely no idea about the investigation or developments of the investigation. We do not even know who is carrying out the inquiry. These are baseless allegation levelled against us, we brought these meals for emergency purposes."
UNICEF won the wrath of the government earlier in the year by exposing Sri Lankan military's involvement in the abduction of children by the paramilitary Karuna group.
