Leaders of the Mosques Federation of Eastern province at a meeting in Polannaruwa on Friday appealed to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse to take immediate steps for solving the problems and dangers faced by the Muslim community.

According to sources in the eastern province, the Federation leaders said that Muslims in the east are facing severe security threats everyday.

Their lives are always in danger over land disputes, performing religious activities for uses of loud speakers during the prayers in mosques, and matters related to slaughtering of cows.

The Federation has appealed to the Muslim parliamentarians to focus their grievances by using the opportunity of voting on the third reading of the budget on December 14.

President of the federation and the chairman of Kaaththaankudi Town council, U. L. M. N. Mubeen, said a letter was sent to the President of Sri Lanka on Saturday morning.
