Sri Lanka: Fisherman shot dead in Kurunakar, 3 family men seek protection from HRC Jaffna

One fisher man was short dead by two unidentified gunmen on Tuesday around morning on Water Tank Road in Kurnakar, Jaffna, sources in Jaffna said. Meanwhile, three persons between the ages of 27 and 49, from Chandilippaai, Yaththaalai in Varani and Madduvil in Chaavakachcheari, on Tuesday sought protection from Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office after they received death threats from Sri Lankan Army and SLA backed paramilitary groups.

The fisher man, identified as Ariyanyagam Res Rehan, 32, from Kurunakar area in Jaffna, came under gun attack of motorbike riding unidentified men at about 11.30 a.m.

With the killing of Rehan, the numbers of fisher men from Kurunakar killed in last two months have risen to three, local sources said.

Meanwhile, civilians received death threats continued to seek protection from HRC Jaffna. Officials said a total of 155 civilians have been given protection by HRC Jaffna.
