Sri Lanka: SLA launches large scale search in Valikaamam

Sri Lanka Amy (SLA) in Jaffna launched an intensive large scale cordon and search operation from early morning in Valikaamam until evening Friday forcing people to gather in public places where they were subjected to lengthy interrogation, sources in Jaffna said.
SLA troops, deployed in large numbers, stopped all vehicles and persons going along the roads in Nalloor, Koapaay, Irupaalay, Nayankarkaddu and Kalviyankaadu in Valikaamam and took the people to nearby plagrounds, schools and other public places holding them till evening.

The troops checked the vehicle documents and motor cycles, and vehicles without documents were confiscated and taken to SLA camps.

Similar intensive searches took place in Maathakal in Valikaamam, Vadamaraadchi and Thenmaraadchi areas.

SLA troops and Field Bike Unit had conducted a cordon and search operation Wednesday evening and gun shot reports were heard Wednesday night from the place where the body of the youth was recovered, according to local residents.
