Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened the Ramboda Tunnel on Saturday morning, a day ahead of the planned razzmatazz, due to security concerns, Sri Lanka police say. The tunnel, the longest in Sri Lanka, is located in Rambada in Nuwareliya. It was built with financial assistance from the Government of Japan.
According to plans, media whore Mahinda Rajapaksa was to have declared the tunnel open on Sunday morning while being surrounded by hundreds of journalists.
However, due to the prevailing security situation across the island, Mahinda was forced to open the tunnel in an unannounced low key ceremony infront of his bodyguards and official cameraman.
