A Sri Lanka Army soldier was killed on the spot, and another seriously wounded soldier reportedly succumbed to his injuries after a bomb blast that targeted a SLA convoy on Point Pedro - Jaffna Road Saturday around 1:30 p.m., sources in Jaffna said. The ambush took place between Maali Santhi Junction and Nelliyadi. The SLA was blocked by the SLA and a cordon and search operation lau

There were conflicting reports on the source of explosion as some officials claimed that the blast was caused by hand grenades, while others said there was a Claymore mine explosion.

The seriously wounded soldier and the body of the SLA trooper were brought to Manthikai hospital. The wounded soldier reportedly succumbed to his injuries while being transferred from Manthikai to Palaali military hospital.

SLA uses the road as Main Supply Route (MSR) towards the Forward Defence Line in Mukamaalai and Naakarakoayil in the Northern Front on alternate days. The other MSR is the coastal road that runs via Point Pedro, Valveddiththu'rai (VVT) and Tho'ndamanaa'ru.
