Unidentified men lobbed two hand grenades Sunday night about 8:30 p.m. in Kalkudaa, Batticaloa district targeting the residence of Arumugam Jeagan who contested on behalf of United National Party (UNP) during the recently concluded Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) Elections, Kalkudaa police said.

Only one of the grenades exploded causing some damage to the front portion of the house located along Kalkudaa main road, and Jegan was not at his residence during the attack Kalkudaa police added.

During the election canvassing Arumugam Jeagan had already lodged a complaint at Batticaloa police station that he has been receiving threats from the operatives of Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP).
