World: India TamilNadu parties ready to lend support to Tamil struggle- Ramdoss

"While the Tamil National struggle in Sri Lanka has assumed new dimensions in its progress towards its goal, parties in Tamil Nadu are spiritually bound to provide unflinching support to Eelam Tamils. We are mobilizing our supporters in India to show our strength and unequivocally express our support," said Leader of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Dr Ramdoss, when Sri Lanka's Leader of Upcountry Peoples Front (UPF), Periyasamy Chandrasekaran met him Saturday. Mr Chandraseakaran is currently on a two week long visit to Tamil Nadu to meet political leaders sympathetic to Tamil struggle, media co-ordinator for UPF in Colombo, Prabha, said.

Mr Chandrasekaran is expected to complete his trip and return back to Sri Lanka in two days.

President of PMK and parliamentarian, G.K Mani, parliamentarian A.K Moorthy and senior members of PMK joined Dr Ramdoss in the discussions.

Mr Chandrasekaran had met Leader of DMK, Muthuvel Karunanidhi, and Leader of MDMK, Mr Vaiko, separately earlier in the week.

"We have recognized the need to expand our activities to supporters of Tamil struggle from all over India into a single united front and not to limit our efforts only within the boundaries of TamilNadu.

"Currently the Tamil struggle is perceived to be confined within the perimeters of the North and East of Sri Lanka, but the struggle closely bound to the future security of the hill country Tamils. Now is the opportune time to consolidate the relationships among all Tamil peoples and portray to the world community the strength of the Tamil people and the urgency for engineering a just and fair solution to the Tamil National question," said Ramdoss.

"It is heartening to watch the developments in this regard in Sri Lanka where all parties representing the Tamils of Indian Origin, have shed their differences and shown unity in working with the leadership of Liberation Tigers," he said.

"Pattali Makkal Katchi has always articulated its open support for Tamil struggle from the very beginning. However, the historical obligation has placed the burden on us to be united. While we understand the political necessity for India to get involved in the Sri Lanka issue, we are resolute in ensuring that India does not ensnarl itself in the conflict by providing arms or military training to Sri Lanka troops.

"We will work relentlessly to expose the political duplicity of Sri Lanka's ruling class, the current Government and the Sinhala opposition parties," said Ramdoss.
