World: Indian Church funds new housing for Mullaitivu tsunami affected area

Foundation laying ceremony for the first phase of twenty five permanent houses for tsunami affected families in Kallapadu North village in Mullaitivu district, funded by Church of South India, was held at 12 noon Monday, sources in Mullaitivu said.

The Church has agreed to fund construction of one hundred houses, church officials said.

Head of the Water and Health Services of Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), Mr A Nagendran, presided the ceremony.

Rev. Fr. A Jeyakumar, Rev.Fr.S.E. Arnold, Rev.Fr.P. Anukular and Rev.Fr.J. Thevarudchelvam laid the foundation stones for the first few houses of the new colony.

TRO's Planning Director, Lawrence Christie, TRO's Director of Tsunami Rehabilitation and Construction, Mr Vincent, Project Director from Jaffna Diocese of Church of South India, Mr J Rajanayagam, beneficiaries and other local residents participated in the ceremony.
