Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Dr.M.Karunanithy promised to take the right action at the right moment in respect of the problems of the Tamils of Sri Lanka. He stated this in an interview with Thinakkural Senior reporter M.A.M Nilam.

He added that neither the DMK nor he was a foe of the Tamils of Sri Lanka or that of the LTTE. It was the view of Tamil Nadu that Sri Lankan Tamils must live in peace and prosperity.

He said that it is true that he did not raise the problem of the Sri Lankan Tamils during the election campaign of Tamil Nadu Assembly. But that should not be construed as being indifferent to the issue or as showing disinterest in the welfare and security of the Sri Lankan Tamils.

He continued that he was leaving to New Delhi shortly to meet the Indian Leaders as a courtesy call.

He confirmed that he would raise the problems presently faced by Sri Lankan Tamils with senior leaders including the Indian premier Manmohan Singh and urge the centre to intervene and exert pressure on the Sri Lankan government to respect human rights and be just and fair.
