DMK Alliance led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Dr.M.Karunanithy today (Monday evening) resolved to request New Delhi to intervene and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of Sri Lankan Tamils whose lives are in jeopardy.

This resolution was passed at the meeting of parties in the alliance led by DMK at Arivalayam in Chennai. The resolution reads as follows:-

Since our hope that the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE will resolve the ethnic issue through negotiation with Norway functioning as facilitator has been shattered

Since both the government and the LTTE are engaged in armed confrontation

Since Tamils of Sri Lanka are victims of air strikes

Since a large bulk of Tamils are fleeing to Tamil Nadu fearing death due to the escalation of violence there

Since these continuing atrocities hurt the feelings of the people of India

- The Alliance resolves that the central government of India takes necessary steps to ensure peace in the island.

The Alliance further resolves to bring to the notice of the Indian Government, the atrocities committed on the Tamil Nadu fishermen in the seas by the Sri Lankan Navy and to reiterate that the rights of the Tamil Nadu fisher-folk to fish and their right to life be guaranteed.

The signatories to the resolution are:-

Dr.M.Karunanithy (Dravidian Munnetra Kalagam), S.Sutharsanam(Indian Congress), Dr.Ramdas(Pattali Makkal Katchi), D.K.Rangarajan(Marxist Party), T.Pandiyan(Indian Communist Party), Cader Mohideen(Indian Union Muslim League)
