Baghdad - Twenty Iraqi civilians were killed and 73 wounded after three explosions ripped through Kirkuk, 250 kilometres north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, Sunday morning.

According to police authorities, a suicide bomber drove an explosives-laden truck into a police station in the centre of the city detonating it and killing 18 people, including a number of policemen.

Police also reported that top Iraqi police officers were among the wounded.

The attacks were in close proximity to the headquarters of two Kurdish political parties and the al-Iraqiya satellite network station.

Around five minutes later, two more explosions tore through a group of police patrols, also in the city central, killing two civilians and wounding several policemen.

Police sources told Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
