At least half a dozen explosions were heard early on Wednesday, some in the area of the Green Zone, where Iraq's parliament and the US and British embassies are based.

At least three rockets landed Wednesday on Sadr city wounding four civilians and damaging a house making a big hole in its roof said police and residents.

One of the rockets landed close to a primary school for girls.

Meanwhile US and Iraqi troops cordoned the predominantly Sunni neighborhood of Adel west Baghdad on Wednesday searching for suspects who were behind sectarian violence in the areas.

In another development, employees of the Iraqi Red Crescent in other branches staged out Wednesday a sit in front of the compound of the Iraqi Red Crescent Society where two dozens were kidnapped two days ago.

Some of the hostages were released while some others are still in captivity.

The employees held their vigil in support with the hostages and appealed for their kidnappers to release them.
