Are these not acts targeting the Tamil students. The attack on the printing press of the Sunday Leader as well as the very manner in which the attack was carried out is another act of violence perpetrated by the government. The killing of Tamil people, the burning of the press suppressing its freedom goes on without any hindrance and there are no investigations on such incidents. In the words of Robert Frost, it goes on. Again Sri Lankan Customs had seized the ready-to-eat meal packets imported into the country by the UNICEF brought by the United Nations to help alleviate the sufferings of the Tamil people affected by the conflict. The Commonwealth took the right decision in suspending Pakistan from its grouping when the government seriously flouted the rule of the law and the people’s rights. Whereas in Sri Lanka the government is even committing a larger crime, which are against any fundamental political values, human values, democracy and rights of people. Past incidences had revealed that the armed forces had engaged in rapes of Tamil Women and young girls, School girls have been massacred in bombing raid, villages destroyed, the Tamils’ possession robbed and properties destroyed. The Sri Lankan army personnel had even indulged in despicable acts of stripping bodies of people killed in the conflict displaying them nakedly in public – an act which goes beyond any norms or standards of human decency. Yet the world turns a blind eye to these acts of suppression, the acts of terror on a minority population. Aren’t these military acts a form of terrorism?
