What is WAP?
WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol and refers to the technology that facilitates access to the Internet via your mobile phone.

How do I access WAP?
To allow your phone to access WAP you will need to make sure that your SIM card has been 'data-enabled'. You can do this by contacting your Service Provider. Some WAP phones may already be provisioned as data-enabled but it's best to check with your Service Provider.

In order to use WAP you will need to enter the correct WAP settings onto your mobile.

  • First go to the WAP / Services option on your mobile and select settings.
  • You will then need to enter the appropriate GSM (ordinary WAP) or GPRS settings.
  • If you have a GPRS mobile you will need to enter GSM settings and GPRS settings onto your handset in order to be able to use both WAP services.

Contact your cell phone service provider for configuration details.

Once you've done this you can access WAP simply by scrolling through your phone's menu until you reach the 'WAP' / 'Internet' / 'Services' option.

What is GSM?
GSM stands for Global System for Mobile communications. GSM WAP means you are accessing the Mobile Internet by the normal method of a phone line. You are charged for the length of the call.

What is GPRS?
General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is an 'always on', high-speed data service that operates alongside existing GSM network. It means you are charged per MB you download and independent of how long you are online.
